Not that you asked, but...

It's just not that interesting.

I’m not easily shocked but…

My friend Brett and I have known each other for nearly 20 years. He is one of the few people that I have shared the best and worst times of my life with. He went through my marriage, the birth of my son (of whom he is a godparent), and my divorce. We owned a business together. Our kids play together. We regularly brag about and share our new toys, be it a boat, model airplane or helicopter, computer, power tool, aquarium, big screen tv, or fishing pole. I thought I knew him pretty well.

On my last visit to his house he proceeded to tell me about his newest acquisition. “It’s out in the garage” he says, which is not that unusual. Most of our hobbies revolve around the garage. What I did not know, however, was that it HAD to be in the garage.  His wife would not let it into the house.  I followed him outside and recognized it instantly.  It was a gun safe.  I have to say, I wasn’t shocked.  We had discussed guns on many occasions and have both owned a few guns in our past, mostly hunting shotguns and rifles.

What did shock me was when he opened it.  It was full.  And I mean FULL of guns.  No crazy military guns or other cultish weapons stashed away, just regular everyday handguns, rifles and shotguns, and a smattering of collectible old western guns.

I looked at my best friend and asked “Is there something you need to tell me?”

“They are not all mine”, he said.

I sure hope not.
